In addition to finding an ideal site, as so many franchises are established it is vital to introduce a concept that allows a business to stand out. This is especially important for franchises like Toppers Pizza, who are competing with household names.

In the markets we operate in, we’re perceived as the little guy, Toppers Pizza Director of Franchise Development, Mark Cairns, told the Journal Star. He explained that they aim for exceptional product and service as a way to set themselves apart from competitors. Stores stay open until 3 a.m. and we promise a delivery time of 25 to 35 minutes from oven to home, he said.

Cairns also told the Journal Star that Toppers is currently the 54th largest pizza chain in the country, but that by next year they should be in the 40s. He explained that he is looking at Central Illinois as a potential place to franchise.

Other franchises included in the article outlined the importance of standing out in the industry, as well as their plans to franchise in Central Illinois these included a home fitness service and an at home senior care provider.

Toppers Pizza going ‘back to the future’

October 7, 2015 • In The News

Toppers Pizza announced that it will run a “Welcome back, Marty McFly” promotion on Oct. 21 in all Chicago-area stores. On Oct. 21, customers may purchase any large pizza for $10.21, according to a company press release. The date and price honor the 1985 movie “Back to the Future,” in which Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) travels forward in time to Oct. 21, 2015.

“The idea originated from a Chicago area franchisee, actually. Her name is Jackie Apkarian and she owns the Wicker Park location,” said Simona Pe├▒a, field marketing coordinator for Toppers Pizza. “We tweaked her idea a bit and came up with the idea below: ALL day on October 21st 2015 every one of the Toppers Pizza locations in the Chicago area will be running a ‘Welcome Back, Marty McFly’ special in which any large pizza will be sold for $10.21. In the movie they ‘rehydrate’ a pizza. Glad to say we are still making ours fresh!”

Toppers Pizza has 71 stores in 11 states.
